CYBERJAYA – Westports Malaysia Dragons clutched in the last minute, confirming their 3rd win of the season over Alab Pilipinas. Skylar Spencer was amazing under the paint with a double-double, 22 points and 22 rebounds.

Kiwi Gardner with his quick thinking and slick moves landed him with 21 points 5 assist 6 steals.

Ivan Yeo stepped it up both in offence and defense, scoring 8 points with 5 offensive and 6 defensive rebounds.

“If I was going to be a completely un-objective observer of the game, I thought Ivan was our MVP (most valuable player) tonight,” said Coach Thomas of Dragons.

Dragons held up the lead the entire game, but almost lost it at the end, stepping up when they were at a 4 point trail.

“Their press did not hurt us, I mean no disrespect to the other team, for three quarters, they did not bother us for one bit.”

But as pressure builds up to the final quarter, the head coach said, “The time, the looking scoreboard thinking “We’re going to win,” and doubts started to creep in and we stopped running to spots we need to get to.”

Robbie Celiz from Alab missed crucial shots allowing Dragons to gain transition points which Spencer and Kiwi saw to.

“When something works, and they don’t make any changes and it still works, well that’s not on me, it proved to be effective,” explained Coach Thomas.

In their last match against Slingers, Kiwi missed two exact shots to give the Singaporeans a push to overtime to win the game.

This time however, he landed two free-throw shots to give Dragons those two extra points ahead of Alab to win the game.

“I wasn’t nervous, but that was on my mind.”

The Malaysian Dragons will be facing Saigon Heat in their next match this Friday at Cyberjaya.

The Heat had just beat Kaohsiung Truth previously but succumb to defeat against the Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions last Saturday.

At the bottom of the league, both teams are desperate for a win. Will Dragons be able to triumph over them to climb the leaderboard?
