BULACAN, Philippines – Starting out slow, Dragons played the entire first quarter without their newest import “Kiwi” Gardner.

Despite playing for only three quarters, Gardner managed to rake up 30 points to be the top scorer of the match along with 5 rebounds, 4 assist and 2 steals.

The Philippine team had a solid defensive play with Bobby Ray Parks, who is regarded as one of the league’s best defender.

Westports Malaysia Dragons lost to Alab Pilipinas at 87-79 even though they had a number of good opportunities to turn the game around.

Second Half

At the 5th minute marker, Gardner gets away with 6-point scoring streak with two “and one’s” in a row.

Minutes later, Joshua Munzon steals the ball from JR Cawaling of Alab to get the ball into Gardner’s hand for a cross court pass to Munzon who is already at the other end to finish with a slam to trail by 5.

The game almost took a turn several times as Dragons gained momentum in the last minutes of the 3rd and 4th quarter.

Kiwi misses a 3 which would have cut the advantage of Alab by half at 58-52, but manages to intercept the ball seconds later to finish with easy lay-up in the last two minutes of the 3rd Quarter.

Fourth Quarter

Skylar Spencer got into the spotlight as well when he scored 8 points in a span of 2 minutes to close the gap to 5 points; 76-71.

The 23-year old center scored a jump shot, then 3 dunks back to back when there was only 5 minutes left on the clock.

Spencer had a total of 5 dunks in the game.

In the last 80 seconds of the game, Dragons were down by 6 points at 78-72, when Munzon steals the ball from Cawaling yet again for another slam!

After the time-out called by the home team, James Hugh scored a two point shot to widen the gap back to 6.

This was immediately countered by Munzon with a clean shot beyond the 3-point line.

At this point, Dragons were down by only 3 points with 58 seconds left to go, but Alab Pilipinas held up defenses with some impressive full-court press to win the game.

Westports Malaysia Dragons will be playing Alab Pilipinas again this Sunday for their third match facing each other at Cyberjaya.
