KUALA LUMPUR – The Westports Malaysia Dragons took control of the second half of our game against Mono Vampire Basketball Club in Thailand last night for three straight wins, 86-94. The game was played at Stadium 29 in Bangkok where the team was faced with minor difficulties during the first half against the home team’s court advantage but the Dragons quickly recovered after half-time. Down only by 4-points at the end of the second quarter, the team steadily caught up soon after and attained a 12-point lead when Loh Shee Fai landed a 3-point in the final quarter. Birthday boy Loh Shee Fai was shooting at 83% shot accuracy beyond the arc knocking down 5 out 6 shots, combined with his jump-shots and free-throws for a total of 19 points. Player of the game Winston Shepard achieved his first triple-double of the league with 32 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists. “I would’ve gotten 40 points if I hadn’t missed some of my free-throws,” said Shepard. “But we’re a good team and I couldn’t have done it without them.” With three wins in a row, we now have 5 wins and 3 losses which sees us at the top 3 of the current league standings, just behind Saigon Heat (8-4) and San Miguel Alab Pilipinas (6-2). We will play our second away game against Saigon Heat this Sunday (20th January). We intend to break the tie we have against the Vietnam team as we lost our first game against them (65-60) away then won by a 2-point clutch (84-82) at home.
