KUALA LUMPUR – After defending our home grounds last Wednesday against Saigon Heat (84-82), the Westports Malaysia Dragons must now face Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Club this coming Sunday (6th Jan) – 3 days later. Team Recap The Hong Kong team has been in the ABL since season 7 and has proven themselves to be one of the top contender for the last two seasons. They finished first in regular season of 2016-2017 with 16-4 then placed second with 15-4 last season 8 (2017-2018). This time, their team has signed a familiar face from previous season, Samuel Deguara who played for Mono Vampire – being the tallest player in his home country Malta at 2.29 metres tall, he will definitely stand out on court. They also have ABL Season 6’s World Import MVP Marcus Elliott who has been with Hong Kong since then. Last night (3rd Jan) against Mono Vampire, Marcus had 27 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 1 block, paired with Deguara’s 16 rebounds, they won that game 95-88 at home. Current League Standings Hong Kong Eastern is now 5-4 win/loss rate at 6th place of the standings while Dragons are 2-2 at 7th place after Winston Shepard shot a buzzer beater that won the game against Saigon. “[It’s] a short turn around,” said Coach Jamie on the tight schedule of games, “The guys have obviously taken a lot of confidence from this game (against Saigon) but they’re up against Hong Kong Eastern next.” “They (Hong Kong) have got a new line up and we got to do our scouting and research to come up with a game plan to hopefully go 2 for 2 at home.” This Sunday’s game will be played at 2:30PM at MABA Stadium, Kuala Lumpur.
