Third time's the charm for KL Dragons as they slay Patriots

PETALING JAYA: After ending up as losers twice, lady luck finally smiled on the KL Dragons when they downed leaders Philippine Patriots 77-59 in the Asean Basketball League at the Maba Stadium yesterday.
The Dragons lost 63-73 in the first clash with the Patriots on Nov 15. The went down by six points at 70-76 in the second meeting on Dec 19.
Yesterday, the Dragons fielded all their imports – Roel Hugnatan, Fhadzmir Bandaying, Rudy Lingganay, Jamal Brown and Chris Kuete – in the starting line-up and they delivered to end the first quarter with a 21-10 lead.
The homesters held off the visitors to take a 44-32 lead after the second quarter.
The Patriots turned on the pressure in the third quarter to reduce their deficit to one point at 52-51.
However, the Dragons found their footing in the final quarter to walk off 77-59 victors.
With the win, Dragons hauled themselves off the bottom of the six-team league with 17 points after 12 games.
Patriots still lead the league with 22 points, followed by Satria Muda (19) and Singapore Slingers (18).
