Coach hopes weary Dragons will not run out of firepower

PETALING JAYA: Asean Basketball League outfit KL Dragons will have their third match in seven days when they face Singapore Slingers today at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, and coach Goh Cheng Huat hopes his players will not run out of gas just yet.

On Jan 5, the Dragons lost to Satria Muda BritAma 57-69 at home before bouncing back to beat league leaders Philippine Patriots 77-63 on Saturday to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Dragons are currently tied with Brunei Barracudas on 17 points. However, the Barracudas are fourth on countback, relegating the Dragons outside of the playoffs spot in fifth.

With three more games to go before the playoffs begin, Cheng Huat wants to put the playoffs out of his mind and concentrate on one game at a time.

“This is sport and not everything is in our control. We will take one game at a time and think about winning the next game.

“We won’t put much thought on the playoff spot because it will just cloud our focus,” he said.

For the match against the Slingers, Cheng Huat is optimist that his boys can repeat their winning feat against the Singaporean outfit on Nov 22.

“We travelled to Singapore immediately after yesterday’s (Saturday) match to give the players more time to rest. I’m confident they will put up a good fight against the Slingers.”
