Monday, 18 January 2010, The Star
KUALA LUMPUR: KL Dragons kept alive their hopes to play in the playoffs of the Asean Basketball League when they snatched a 78-71 win over Singapore Slingers at the Maba Stadium here yesterday.
The two teams first met on Nov 22 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and the Dragons handed the Slingers their first home loss of the season, winning the match 84–74.
Slingers, however, bounced back on Jan 11 in their second meeting at the same venue and won the match 92-74.
Yesterday’s saw the Dragons sending in Jamal Brown, Fhadzmir Bandaying, John Ng, Rudy Lingganay and Chris Kuete to go up against Michael LeBlanc, Kyle Jeffers, Marcus Ng, Al Vergara and Hong Wei Jian.
However, it was substitute Shee Fai Loh, who was the toast for the Dragons. He emerged as the top scorer with 17 points.
With the win yesterday, the Dragons remained in fourth place in the six-team league on 20 points ahead of Brunei Barracudas (19) and Thailand Tigers (17).
Philippine Patriots topped the table on 24 points after beating Tigers 91-87 yesterday. Indonesia’s Satria Muda BritAma are second on 22 points followed by the Slingers (21).
However, the Dragons still have to win their final league fixture against fancied Satria Muda BritAma on Saturday to have a chance to get into the four-team playoffs. Barracudas could still pip Dragons to the spot because they have two matches in hand.
